How to Dehydrate Lion’s Mane and Use It in Tea, Powder, Smoothies & More

Preserve the benefits. Unlock the possibilities.

Lion’s Mane isn’t just great fresh—it’s also incredibly versatile once dried. Whether you're sipping it in tea or blending it into your smoothie, dehydrated Lion’s Mane gives you year-round access to this powerful brain-boosting mushroom.

Here’s how to do it right:

🔥 Step 1: Dehydrate Your Lion’s Mane Mushrooms

Option 1: With a Dehydrator

  • Slice the mushroom into ½-inch thick chunks or strips.

  • Set dehydrator to 110–120°F (43–49°C).

  • Dry for 6–12 hours until completely crisp and brittle.

Option 2: In the Oven

  • Set oven to lowest temperature (ideally under 170°F / 76°C).

  • Spread slices on a baking rack or tray with parchment.

  • Leave the oven door slightly open to let moisture escape.

  • Check every 2–3 hours until mushrooms are dry and snap easily.

💡 Properly dried Lion’s Mane should be completely moisture-free to prevent spoilage during storage.

📦 Step 2: Store It Right

  • Keep dried mushrooms in an airtight glass jar or vacuum-sealed bag.

  • Store in a cool, dark, dry place (pantry or cupboard).

  • Properly dried Lion’s Mane can last 6–12 months.

🍵 How to Use Dehydrated Lion’s Mane

1. Lion’s Mane Tea (Chunks or Strips)

  • Add 2–4 grams of dried mushroom to a pot of water.

  • Simmer for 20–30 minutes (or longer for a stronger brew).

  • Optionally add ginger, cinnamon, or lemon.

  • Strain and enjoy hot or chilled.

🍄 This pulls out the water-soluble polysaccharides that support immune and gut health.

2. Lion’s Mane Powder

  • Use a coffee grinder or spice mill to grind dried Lion’s Mane into a fine powder.

  • Store in a sealed jar or shake container.

How to Use It:

  • Add ½ to 1 tsp to:

    • Smoothies or shakes

    • Coffee or tea

    • Hot chocolate or matcha

    • Oatmeal, soups, or baking

🧠 The powder has a mild, earthy taste and blends well into warm drinks or recipes.

3. Rehydrated Chunks for Cooking

  • Soak dried Lion’s Mane chunks in warm water for 10–20 minutes.

  • Squeeze out excess liquid and sauté like fresh mushrooms.

  • Add to:

    • Stir-fries

    • Pasta dishes

    • Ramen bowls

    • Tacos or plant-based “crab” cakes

🧽 The texture is meaty and satisfying, even after drying!

🌿 Final Tip: Make It a Ritual

Adding Lion’s Mane to your day doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether it’s a calming tea at night, a productivity boost in your smoothie, or a savory recipe, dried Lion’s Mane gives you flexible options—and lasting benefits.
